While many of us still own films on DVDs, the best physical format for consumers remains Blu-ray. But in the 00s, it had competition from HD DVD. This video by 91Tech investigates its demise and how and why Blu-ray won out in the end.

Blu-ray has been around for a long time and still reigns king of physical video, even if it isn’t as relevant as it used to be… but it wasn’t the only option initially, thanks to HD DVD. Microsoft even made an ‘HD DVD’ add-on for their Xbox 360 to compete with the PS3 (which had Blu-ray built in and of course would win out). It’s a fascinating tale, so let’s go over it today!
